About Moneyshark

Grooveshark's web application is the frontend for all of the information that is collected via its social network, P2P application, and third-party data feeds.

Likewise, Moneyshark is Grooveshark's backend system for supplying data to record labels, publishers, artists, and other copyright holders. It allows Grooveshark to pay out royalties and supply valuable reports in exchange for a discount on royalty payouts, and it also allows copyright holders to control the pricing of their content and manage their content's metadata.

As Grooveshark's community grows on the frontend, so will the amount of data and level of potential specificity of the backend. Reports will become more precise in their ability to target certain types of users to certain music tastes. Likewise, advertisers will be increasingly able to hit a specific niche in exchange for a premium on the desired ad space.

Data is already being collected with regard to song playback, downloads, account refills, playlist creation, searching, page views, and other variables.

Outside companies may also be interested in this data. A ticketing company, for example, could purchase Grooveshark analytics to determine the best ways to route concert tours, and could even supplement a tour through these areas by advertising to Grooveshark users nearby.
